The first game of the 2026 college football season is in the books.  And it was an impressive one for Bridgewater State.

The Bears scored nine touchdowns to beat Curry, 63-35.  This is the first time the Bears have won on opening day since 2018.

Bridgewater State never trailed in this one.  The Bears jumped out to a 20-0 lead, only to see the Colonels cut the deficit to five at halftime.  The Bears scored 37 points in the second half to pull away.

Eight of the Bears’ touchdowns came on the ground.  Andrew Cloutman had three of them.  He finished with 168 yards total.  Two of them came from Oscar Weah.  Quarterback Jayden Barber also had a rushing TD.  He had 160 total yards.  Barber and Shamus Whiting only attempted eight passes.  They completed all eight.  Bridgewater State racked up 538 yards of total offense.

For the Colonels, it was the Caleb Borges to Wesley Williams show.  Those two connected for four touchdowns.  Williams finished with 106 receiving yards.  On the ground, Jordan Depina finished came up one yard shy of the 100-yard mark.

Next week: Bridgewater State travels to Westfield State.  Curry will play its home opener against Coast Guard.
