It was a solid start to the season for the Tufts Jumbos.  Behind a 4-touchdown performance from Christan Shapiro, the Jumbos beat the Continentals from Hamilton College, 42-28.

Tufts never trailed in this game.  The tone was set early when Hamilton muffed a punt, and Tufts cashed in on a touchdown pass from Hudson Weidman to Granville Anderson II.  The Jumbos went up by double-digits on Shapiro’s first touchdown of the day.  From that point on, the Continentals were playing catch-up.  They would get as close as 7 multiple times, but were never able to get back to even.

Tufts did most of its damage on the ground, led by Shapiro’s 118 yards.  The Jumbos rushed for 191 as a team.  Weidman threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns.

On the other side, Hamilton mostly moved the ball through the air.  Luke Kurzum threw for 346 yards and two touchdowns.  The scoring star for the Continentals was Ace Etienne.  He had three touchdowns – two rushing, one receiving.

Total yards were 394-374 in favor of Tufts.  But Hamilton committed two turnovers, which led to 14 points for the Jumbos.  That turned out to be the difference in the game.

Next week, Tufts travels to Wesleyan.  Hamilton will play its home opener against Amherst.
