I am back from Atlanta, but am just getting around to updating the blog. What a game that turned out to be. The Buccaneers pulled out a 23-20 victory in the final minute against the division-rival Falcons.
The game-winner was Baker Mayfield’s TD pass to Emeka Egbuka. It was Egbuka’s second of the day, and Mayfield’s third. But after Chase McLaughin doinked the extra point, we had to hold our breath as the Falcons needed only a field goal to tie it. And with Todd Bowles running the show, there was no doubt in my mind that Atlanta would march down the field in the final seconds. And that’s just what happened. I breathed an enormous sigh of relief when Younghoe Koo pushed his last-second attempt wide right.
The last five minutes of that game took forever because of all the challenges, reviews, stoppages, all that stuff. All but one of the close calls went Atlanta’s way. The Bucs did not play a perfect game. Neither did the Falcons. But at the end of the day, the Bucs picked up a big road win against a division opponent.
The people in Atlanta are so, so nice. I had no issues whatsoever during my time down there. I would not hesitate to go to another game at Mercedes-Benz stadium in the future.
But next week, the Bucs play in Houston on Monday night.
