A new college football season is underway.  And it began, for me, with an entertaining battle in Milton.  Behind three fourth-quarter touchdowns from Montie Quinn, Curry held off Bridgewater State on Friday night, 35-28.

The Colonels took a 7-0 lead into the halftime locker room.  The only touchdown of the half came on a 22-yard pass from Anthony Santino to Wesley Williams.

The first half featured just the lone TD.  Both offenses got going big-time in the second half.

The Bears took the lead in the third quarter on a 2-yard run by Isaiah Wright, and a 25-yard pass from Shamus Whiting to Jack McCarthy on fourth down.

But the fourth quarter belonged to Quinn.  He scored on runs of 44, 32 and 6 yards.  He finished with 153 yards on 23 carries.  His effort was part of a 28-point fourth quarter for the home team.

The Bears did not go quietly, however.  Josh Registre caught a pair of touchdowns in the final quarter, including a spectacular grab in the final minute that briefly gave Bridgewater State some life.  The ensuing onside kick took a favorable bounce – and it looked like one of the Bears had a shot at it – but the Colonels recovered and ran out the clock.

Whiting threw for 328 yards.  Santino threw for 177, but did not turn it over.

Mohale Mitchell had a big game receiving for the Bears: 4 catches for 142 yards.

Next week: Curry travels to Coast Guard, while Bridgewater State plays its home opener against Westfield State.
