Like many fans, I am sick of writing the same thing week after week after week.
Today, the Bucs made yet another rookie/backup QB look like a superstar. This time, it was Quinn Ewers. Tampa Bay lost, 20-17, to a Miami team that’s been tanking. But when a tanking team that plays Todd Bowles’ defense, that tank is loaded and ready to fire.
The problems are the same ones that have been going on for months: bad defense, bad offensive play-calling, turnovers by Baker Mayfield at inopportune times (3 in the second half.) Bad offensive line play. Bad penalties. Bad special teams (blocked FG and a long kickoff return allowed.) These problems have been persistent for months. The coaching stuff has done nothing to fix them. Don’t worry, Todd: one more loss and (hopefully) you’ll be run out of town.
Mayfield is not immune to the issues. He threw two bad interceptions and also lost a fumble. Ever since getting hurt a couple of months ago, he just hasn’t been the same. I just hope it’s because of his injury. If not, then the Bucs have a decision to make at quarterback next year.
The crazy part of this collapse? The Bucs can still win the division if they beat the Panthers next weekend. But does anyone really expect that to happen, based on what’s happened the last 8 weeks?
