The stage is set for a winner-take-all championship game in the Conference of New England (CNE.)
Today, Curry used a big second half to rally past UNE, 47-30. That result, combined with Endicott’s shutout of New England College, means the Colonels and Gulls will go head-to-head next week in Beverly, with the winner getting a berth in the playoffs.
Two running backs were the stars in this game. In the first half – and first 2 minutes of the third quarter – the story of the game was Nor’easters’ RB Damien Jones. He rushed for four touchdowns and finished with 267 yards on the ground. Early in the second half, UNE had a 30-16 lead.
But then, the game changed. There was no one specific play that turned it around; the Colonels just took control. They outscored the Nor’easters 31-0 the rest of the way. Montie Quinn came into this game needing 72 yards for 2,000 on the season. He finished with 282, with the bulk of those yards coming in the second half. During that surge, the home team got rushing touchdowns from Quinn, Anthony Santino and Jordan Depina. Santino also threw a touchdown pass to Wesley Williams.
Curry went a perfect 6-0 at home this season. UNE suffered its second loss, and lost a chance for a postseason bid in the process.
