This was one of those games where I ask myself, ‘where to begin’…
It was one of those wild games that had a little bit of everything, and then some. Framingham State beat Bridgewater State in overtime, 46-40. Treyvon Fields hooked up with Alex Maia for the game-winning score.
The Rams jumped out to a 14-point lead. But the Bears answered with 21 straight points – including a fumble return from Peter Celestino and an interception return from Hunter Hastings, who batted the pass up in the air, caught it, and took it to the house. It was 21-14 at the half.
It was tied at 27 after 3, then came the wild fourth quarter. Fields threw a pair of touchdowns to Ayden Ramirez to put the Rams up by 13 with less than three minutes to go. But the Bears answered on the first play of the following drive. Joseph Dube-Garrett found Joseph Fallon for a 71-yard score. Bridgewater State recovered the onside kick, and Dube-Garrett connected with Mike Wynn. Two touchdowns in just over a minute. But the Bears missed the extra point that would’ve given them the lead. So, the game was tied at 40. It’s worth mentioning…the Rams also missed an extra point earlier in the game.
In overtime, the Bears went backward on their possession due to a fumbled shotgun snap. Then Dube-Garrett was picked off in the end zone. The Rams got the ball, setting the stage for Fields and Maia’s heroics. Fields threw three TD passes since entering the game in the second half.
Jaheim Daniels had a big game for the Rams: 154 yards on the ground, 58 receiving, and 2 touchdowns.
Framingham State outgained Bridgewater State, 459-305. But the Bears’ number does not account for their two defensive touchdowns.
Next week: Framingham State plays at Fitchburg State. Bridgewater State travels to Worcester State.
