These Bucs are going to give me a heart attack sooner rather than later.
It looked like they had today’s game in the bag. But you can never buy into that with Todd Bowles running the show. His defense let the Jets march right down the field twice for touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Then, the Jets blocked Chase McLaughlin’s field goal attempt and ran it back, and suddenly the Bucs had blown a 17-point lead.
Enter Baker Mayfield. He refuses to let this team lose, despite all the injuries (more on that in a moment.) He led them down the field and into field goal range. And this time, McLaughlin was good as time expired. It was his fifth FG of the day. Tampa Bay beat New York 29-27.
The Bucs had a makeshift offensive line due to injuries, and it showed. The first quarter was flag…after flag…after flag. They finished with 14 penalties for 124 yards. That cannot continue to happen.
And in the fourth quarter, another big injury: Mike Evans left with a hamstring injury, and was visibly upset about it. We’ve seen this from Evans before. Hopefully he comes back soon, but we’ll see.
At the end of the day, they’re 3-0. Three wins by a total of six points. We’ll see if they can keep it going against the Super Bowl champs next Sunday.
