Endicott College is moving on to the next round of the playoffs, thanks to a convincing victory over Alfred State.

The defense pitched a shutout, and in the second half, the Gulls turned a close game into a blowout.  44-0 was the final.

The story of this game was Endicott’s defense.  In addition to keeping the Pioneers from the ECFC off the scoreboard, the Gulls held Alfred State to just 186 yards of total offense.  The defense even scored itself, courtesy of a pick-six from Zachariah Twardosky that got the home team rolling in the second half.

Offensively, the CNE champs had 506 yards of offense.  They did most of their damage on the ground – 345 of those yards.  The Gulls scored four rushing touchdowns – two by Michael O’Brien, one from Bryan Metayer and another from quarterback Clayton Marengi.

The other headline from this game was the penalties – on both sides.  The Pioneers had nine penalties.  The Gulls had ten – including three that wiped out touchdowns.

Endicott will face Cortland in the next round of the playoffs next Saturday.
