Two teams remain tied atop the standings of the NEWMAC after six games. One of them is Salve Regina, which built a big lead and then hung on to beat Coast Guard, 34-28, in New London, Connecticut.
It was an impressive performance by Seahawks’ quarterback Jake Stack. He threw three touchdown passes and ran for another TD. The Seahawks built a 34-7 lead midway through the third quarter.
But that is when the Bears started their comeback, scoring 21 unanswered points behind three straight rushing touchdowns by Dennis O’Shea. The home team cut the deficit to six with just over two minutes remaining. But Salve Regina was able to pick up a couple of big first downs and run out the clock.
The teams combined for over 800 yards of total offense in a fast-paced, high scoring game.
Salve Regina hosts Springfield next Saturday in a battle for first place. Coast Guard travels to Norwich.
